BEFORE THE HALLOWEEN MAGIC

How to choose a photo for an AI pet portrait

The most useful reference photo is often a simple one: a single pet, a clear face and light that shows their markings. PawPost uses your photo to create a Halloween interpretation. It can still change details, so the preview matters as much as the upload.

Start with the face you want to recognize

Choose a photo where both eyes, the nose and the outline of the ears are visible. A slight turn of the head is fine if that is the pose you want, but a side profile gives the model less information about the hidden side. Avoid sunglasses, hands across the muzzle, or a toy covering distinctive facial markings.

For a dog with floppy ears, include the ends of the ears. For a cat, leave room above the ear tips and around the whiskers. A close crop can remove the very features that make the portrait recognizable.

Pick even light and a sharp image

Soft daylight helps reveal fur color and texture. Strong backlighting can turn the face into a silhouette; bright flash can change the appearance of the eyes. Zoom into the photo before uploading. If the eyes and nose are already blurry, a generated image may look detailed without preserving the right details.

For dark fur, check that you can distinguish the muzzle from the surrounding coat. For pale fur, check that highlights have not washed out patches or ear edges. Avoid beauty filters and heavy color adjustments.

Keep one pet in the frame

Use a photo of one animal, with the head and upper body visible. A group photo can make it unclear which face or markings to preserve. If you have several pets, create separate portraits. Choose a calm, ordinary pose rather than a fast action shot with crossed legs or motion blur.

Choose the costume around your pet’s features

The pumpkin style places warm orange fabric around the body. The witch adds a hat and cape, so pay attention to the ears. The vampire uses a darker cape and a dramatic setting. The ghost uses pale fabric, which can blend with light fur. See all four in our Halloween pet photo ideas.

Upload requirements and what happens next

The studio accepts JPG, PNG and WebP up to 10 MB. Your browser prepares a smaller image for upload. The photo is sent to Together AI to create the portrait; the source upload is removed from PawPost storage after processing. Generated portraits remain in your browser-linked collection. This describes PawPost storage, not the provider’s separate data policies.

Check these details before spending a credit

A good reference helps, but does not guarantee an exact likeness. If the preview looks wrong, do not unlock it expecting a different result. One credit removes the watermark from that same generated portrait; it does not produce a replacement.

Keep the finished image

Unlocked originals can be downloaded again without spending another credit. Credits and history currently depend on this browser’s cookies, so save the original image to your device. There is no email login or cross-device recovery yet.
